Hai Phong Buffalo Fighting Festival

Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival is one of the extremely popular Hai Phong festivals, is a traditional cultural activity, of national stature, and is attended by a large number of people every year. The feature of the festival is the image of buffaloes rushing towards each other, showing their strength and also showing the chivalrous spirit of the people here.

The festival took place with many activities imbued with national identity. The opening dance was divided into two rows by 24 young men of the village, both flexible and powerful, with the colors changing flexibly and fancifully in the sounds of drums and la la. In the words of the elders, the sound of drums and claps has the effect of creating an atmosphere in the yard to urge the "buffaloes" to compete more fiercely. With the flag dance, the flags are swung up and down strongly, decisively, rhythmically, sometimes crisscrossing each other like two armies fighting, showing the bravery of people fighting the sea

At exactly 8 o'clock, the sound of drums and gongs to open the festival, translate loudspeakers to call the "buffaloes" into the battle sounded. From the two north-south gates of the ring, each pair of buffaloes is led out to stand at the foot of the Ngu Phung flagpole (on both sides). When the signal was issued, the two buffaloes moved closer together, about 20 meters apart. At the next command, the buffalo driver suddenly pulled out the nose string, and the two buffaloes rushed into each other to start a match
